She’s Building Something: Meet Kamry Steger

Please tell us more about what you’re building and where your inspiration came from:

What I’m building is more than a project or organization—it’s a movement inspired by my life, my experiences, and the people who have shaped me. Growing up in Detroit, Michigan taught me the power of resilience, unity, and the importance of creating opportunities for others. As I navigated life, I saw firsthand how lack of resources and support could impact a community, and it lit a fire in me to be a solution, not just a bystander.

My greatest inspiration, however, comes from my daughter. As a mother of a child with special needs, I’ve had to confront the barriers that exist for children like her and for families like ours. It opened my eyes to the world’s shortcomings but also to its potential. I realized that if the resources my daughter needed didn’t exist, I had the power to help create them—not just for her, but for others too.

What I’m building is rooted in a desire to foster inclusion, understanding, and empowerment. It’s about creating inclusive spaces, opportunities for growth, and a culture where every individual—regardless of ability, background, or circumstances—feels seen and valued. This isn’t just about serving others, it’s about honoring the journey that brought me here and using my story to inspire change.

How do you envision this impacting the lives of others?

I envision this work as a catalyst for lasting change, transforming the way people view inclusion, accessibility, and community. It’s not just about providing resources or building inclusive spaces; it’s about creating a culture where everyone feels they belong, where differences are embraced, and where barriers are broken down.

For children, this means opportunities to explore their strengths, build confidence, and grow in environments that celebrate their individuality. For families, it means access to the support they need, knowing they’re not navigating life’s challenges alone. For communities, it means fostering connections, promoting understanding, and creating spaces that reflect the diversity of the people within them.

I believe this work will spark conversations, shift perspectives, and inspire others to take action. By showing what’s possible when inclusion is prioritized, we can empower people to see themselves and each other in a new light. The ultimate goal is to leave a legacy of love, understanding, and unity that creates ripple effects far beyond what we can see today.

What can others do to support you on this journey?

Supporting this journey is about more than contributing resources—it’s about joining a movement that prioritizes inclusion, compassion, and action. One of the most impactful ways others can help is by raising awareness. Share our mission with your networks, spark conversations about the importance of inclusion, and advocate for spaces and opportunities that welcome everyone.

Another way to support is by offering your unique talents, skills, or connections. Whether it’s volunteering, collaborating on projects, or connecting us with individuals and organizations that share our vision, every contribution matters. Financial support is also invaluable in helping us expand our reach, develop programs, and create more inclusive spaces.

Finally, I encourage people to reflect on how they can create inclusion in their own circles—whether it’s in their workplaces, schools, or communities. When more people take small steps toward understanding and unity, the impact becomes exponential. Together, we can make this vision a reality, and I welcome anyone who’s ready to be part of this journey with open arms.

What did 2024 teach you as a visionary?

2024 taught me that being a visionary isn’t just about having big ideas—it’s about staying grounded in the work, being adaptable in the face of challenges, and understanding the deep responsibility that comes with creating change. It reminded me that transformation doesn’t happen overnight, but through consistent effort, collaboration, and the willingness to push boundaries.

As a visionary, I learned that the journey is as important as the destination. Every setback, every unexpected turn, has been an opportunity for growth, a chance to refine my vision and my approach. I learned the importance of staying connected to my purpose and aligning my actions with my values, even when the path isn’t clear.

2024 also reinforced the power of community and collaboration. No change happens alone, and the support of others—whether it’s through partnerships, feedback, or shared goals—has been a reminder that we’re all in this together. As a visionary, it’s not enough to have a dream; it’s about inspiring and mobilizing others to walk with you and turn that dream into a reality.

Share your 2025 word of intention and what this means to you:

My word of intention for 2025 is **"purpose,"** and it’s deeply rooted in my faith and the guidance of God. This word serves as a reminder that everything I do is part of a greater divine plan. Purpose is the foundation of my actions, fueled by my belief that I’m called to serve others, especially those in underserved communities and children with disabilities. It’s about staying aligned with God’s will and using every opportunity to fulfill the mission He has placed in my heart.

For me, 2025 is about embracing the purpose God has given me with even more clarity and intentionality. It’s trusting in His direction as I continue to build, grow, and empower others. My purpose is not just to create change, but to create change in a way that honors Him, uplifts others, and brings His love into every space I occupy. It’s about seeking His wisdom in every decision and ensuring my work reflects His values of love, inclusion, and service.

In 2025, I aim to live with a deeper sense of purpose, knowing that God is with me every step of the way. I will continue to trust in His plan, knowing that through Him, I can impact lives, build community, and bring His vision of inclusion to fruition. Purpose is the driving force behind everything I do, and with God’s guidance, I am confident it will continue to shape everything I touch.
