She Makes Life Better: Meet Nailah Abdullah

Please tell us a little bit about where you are from and what industry you are in?

I am what you would call West Indian American. Born in New Jersey to West Indian parents from the small islands of St. Kitts and Statia. While my business roots are in New Jersey, I also reside on the beautiful island of St. Maarten. My career background is in the mental health field. I am a clinical social worker by degree and have worked as a mental health professional for several years. I pivoted into the coaching world once I had my daughter in 2019, which initially this started with wanting to continue to serve people, but wanting to do it more on my own terms. I preferred to leave the conventional approach as it is in therapy, and venture more into the life coaching space. This eventually blossomed into a very passionate topic of mine, which is healing from and breaking the cycle of toxic relationships. As this is something I had personally experienced.

What inspired you to work in this field? What is your specialist area?

I am very grateful and aware of how powerful my healing journey has been, and since then I have been helping other women to experience their own healing and growth. This brought me to my mission to serve as a toxic relationship coach, focusing on toxic relationship healing, spiritual growth, and overall personal development.

What challenges have you faced if any whilst coaching?

Coming from the mental health field as an employee, people automatically trusted that you were able to help them. The challenge that I had initially in the coaching field was learning how to convey to people that I can help them without having an agency or company behind me as my employer. This is something that I have grown in and continue to grow, and because I realize the importance of the services that I provide and how they can literally change the trajectory of someone’s life.

What advice would you give to someone who is struggling with making significant changes in their life?

Ask for help! We are in one of the best times where there is information at our fingertips. Whatever we are struggling with, there are tons of people out there who have struggled with it and who have overcame it. There is no need for us to struggle and try to re-create the wheel. We have to learn how to ask for help to avoid prolonging our growth so we can quicker get to the purpose that God has for us and eliminate the distractions .

How do you self care?

Ha ha ha. To be honest, that is something that I struggle with at this time because I have a four year old and a one year old. I am also learning that boy children are much more energetic and rambunctious than girl children and while my first child is a girl, my second child, which is the one year old, is a boy. So I find myself pouring into my family and sometimes forgetting to take care of self. But the times that I do remember to do so I enjoy going out to eat with my husband or with friends. I enjoy going to the beach. And I enjoy sitting on the couch in the house by myself, praying, meditating and reading the word of God to refill my cup.
