She’s Bold, Brilliant, and Black: Meet Lorraine Gbadegesin

I’m Lorraine Gbadegesin, a devoted Christian, wife, and mother of two, and I have called Stourbridge home for the past 15 years. As a certified entrepreneur and business coach, I have extensive experience in finance and project management, having worked across both public and private sectors. I’m passionate about lifelong learning, which inspired me to write Beyond the Classroom. I’m also the founder of the award-winning fashion brand, Lozboutique, where I combine my love for business and creativity to empower others on their entrepreneurial journey.

What experiences in your life have helped you become the bold woman you are today?

My journey as an entrepreneur, business coach, and launching my fashion brand has shaped by my diverse experiences in the fashion industry, finance, and project management. Witnessing the struggles of women balancing multiple roles as professionals, wives, and mothers has fueled my passion for empowerment. Organising events, coaching SMEs, and lecturing at universities and Businesses Board Advisor at Birmingham City University have reinforced my belief in lifelong learning and community support.

Who were your role models growing up, and how did they influence your path?

My role models were strong, purpose-driven women who balanced their personal and professional lives with grace and determination. Their resilience and commitment to uplifting others inspired my approach to business and coaching. My faith also played a key role in shaping my values and leadership style, leading me to be recognised among the top 20 Christian coaches in women-led business communities.

As a Black woman, have you faced any unique challenges that have impacted your journey? How have you navigated moments of adversity?

As a Black woman in business, I have encountered challenges such as breaking into male-dominated industries and overcoming biases in entrepreneurship. However, I have navigated these obstacles by staying committed to my purpose, continuously learning, and building strong networks. My work with the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, coaching SMEs, and sharing insights at universities have all been ways to create opportunities not just for myself but for others facing similar challenges.

How do you want your life and work to impact your community and the world?

My mission is to empower women and small business owners through education, mentorship, and entrepreneurship. Whether through my fashion consultancy, speaking engagements, or my book Beyond the Classroom: Mastering the Concept of Lifelong Learning, I aim to inspire individuals to pursue lifelong learning and take charge of their personal and professional growth.

What advice would you give to other Black women about owning their brilliance in spaces that attempt to dim their light?

Own your story, invest in continuous learning, and surround yourself with a strong support network. Your brilliance is non-negotiable never let societal limitations define you. Be bold, be visible, and lift others as you climb. Faith, resilience, and persistence will always open doors, even in spaces that weren't originally built for you.
