She’s Bold, Brilliant, and Black: Meet Erica Elle

What experiences in your life have helped you to become the bold woman you are today?

My journey has been shaped by moments of profound loss, resilience, and unwavering determination. Losing my mother at six years old forced me to grow up quickly and understand the depth of strength required to navigate life without a safety net. Becoming a mother to twins at fifteen was another pivotal experience, it taught me perseverance, responsibility, and the power of defying the odds. From pursuing higher education while raising three children to building a career in corporate leadership and entrepreneurship, every challenge has strengthened my resolve. Each setback became a lesson, and each lesson became a stepping stone toward the bold woman I am today.

Who were your role models growing up and how did they influence your path?

Growing up, I didn’t have many direct role models in my immediate environment, but I found inspiration in the stories of powerful Black women who paved the way before me. Women like Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, and Maya Angelou showed me the importance of resilience, purpose, and owning one’s voice. Their journeys of overcoming obstacles, embracing their authenticity, and leading with impact influenced how I saw my own potential. Additionally, the women in my life, teachers, mentors, and strong friends, played a role in shaping my perspective on success and self-worth.

As a Black woman, have you faced any unique challenges that have impacted your journey? How have you navigated moments of adversity?

Absolutely. As a Black woman, I have faced the challenges of being underestimated, overlooked, and having to prove my worth repeatedly in corporate spaces. There were times when I had to fight for a seat at the table or watch others take credit for ideas I introduced. I have navigated these challenges by remaining rooted in my purpose, excelling beyond expectations, and refusing to shrink myself for the comfort of others. I have also leaned on my faith, my inner circle, and a mindset of continuous learning. Every challenge has reinforced my resilience and my commitment to breaking barriers for those who come after me.

How do you want your life and work to impact your community and the world?

My goal is to leave a legacy of empowerment and transformation. I want my life and work to serve as proof that it’s possible to break cycles, redefine success, and claim spaces that weren’t designed for us. Through mentorship, coaching, and entrepreneurship, I aim to uplift and equip others with the tools to navigate their own journeys with confidence. I want to help Black women and underserved communities recognize their power, own their brilliance, and create opportunities that lead to generational wealth and lasting impact.

What advice would you give to other Black women about owning their brilliance in spaces that attempt to dim their light?

Never shrink yourself for the comfort of others. Your brilliance is not something to be hidden, it’s your gift to the world. Walk into every room with the confidence that you deserve to be there and never let anyone make you feel otherwise. Speak up, take up space, and set boundaries that protect your peace and purpose. Surround yourself with people who pour into you, who remind you of your greatness, and who challenge you to keep growing. And most importantly, don’t wait for permission, create your own table if necessary. The world needs your light, so shine unapologetically.
