She’s Bold, Brilliant, and Black: Meet Rachel Leach

What experiences in your life have helped you to become the bold woman you are today?

Experiences that have shaped me into the bold woman I am today are rooted in resilience. Growing up, I faced various challenges that tested my strength and determination. Each hurdle taught me valuable lessons about perseverance and self-advocacy. Juggling responsibilities as a teen mom and overcoming domestic violence has made me courageous. These experiences shaped my confidence and fueled my desire to make a difference in both my personal life and the lives of others.

Who were your role models growing up and how did they influence your path?

My primary role model growing up was my mother. She exemplified kindness, generosity, and a strong sense of community. Her commitment to helping others—whether it was through community service or nurturing children who needed a safe haven—greatly influenced my values. Watching her dedicate herself to uplifting those around her inspired me to do the same. Her nurturing spirit encouraged me to pursue a career in nursing, where I could care for others and make a positive impact on people’s lives.

As a Black woman, have you faced any unique challenges that have impacted your journey? How have you navigated moments of adversity?

As a Black woman, I have undoubtedly faced unique challenges, including navigating stereotypes and biases both personally and professionally. These experiences have often tested my resolve and self-worth. In moments of adversity, I have leaned on my support system of family and friends, & Most importantly God himself who reminds me of my capabilities and strength. He always reminded me of my purpose in life. By actively seeking mentorship and creating spaces for dialogue about our experiences, I’ve been able to turn challenges into opportunities for growth and empowerment.

How do you want your life and work to impact your community and the world?

I aspire for my life and work to create positive ripples in my community and beyond. As a nurse, I aim to provide compassionate care while advocating for health equity. I believe that everyone deserves access to healthcare and support, regardless of their circumstances. Through my work and community involvement, I hope to inspire others to recognize their own power and the importance of giving back, fostering a cycle of support and upliftment. My goal is to decrease health disparities.

What advice would you give to other Black women about owning their brilliance in spaces that attempt to dim their light?

To other Black women stepping into spaces that may try to dim their light, I would advise you to embrace your brilliance unapologetically. Recognize the unique perspectives and strengths you bring to the table. Surround yourself with a strong community that uplifts and empowers you. Remember, your voice matters and can pave the way for others. Practice self-care and affirmations to boost your confidence; it’s essential to acknowledge your accomplishments and resilience. Most importantly, you have to find your purpose. Your purpose is your passion. Your passion is your wealth.
